Flag Adopted 25 January 1972

Formerly East Pakistan, Bangladesh gained independence after a bloody civil war with Pakistan in 1971.

The red disk is set slightly off center and is the "sun of freedom". It is colored red in remembrance of the blood spilt during the war. The Green background is the color of Islam as well as indicating the richness of the land.
