Mexico Flag Adopted 1821 The flag of Mexico has remained much the same since 1823 when its colors were re-arranged into the familiar vertical stripes. The most striking part of this flag is the country's coat of arms placed in the center of the white stripe as an emblem. This emblem is of an eagle eating a snake sitting atop a cactus on an island in the middle of a lake. This is a symbol going back to the Aztecs. In Aztec lore, it was commanded that when the then nomadic peoples came across such a scene that they should stop and found a city there. |
