Oman Flag

Flag Adopted 1995

This flag features the national emblem of Oman - two crossed swords fastened to a curved dagger with an ornate horse bit. This emblem dates back to the 18th century.

The white is the color of the Imam, the traditional religious leader of Oman. White is also used to symbolize peace and purity.

The green, besides the usual Islamic meaning, also refers to the "Green Mountains" in the north of the country. The red dates back to the traditional red banner historically flown in the region.
