Qatar Flag

Flag Adopted 1949

Similar to the flag of Bahrain this flag was originally a red banner. Later a red stripe was added to distinguish it from the red banner used by pirates and raiders of the region. Later the stripe was serrated to distinguish it from the flag of Dubai.

The final change came when Qatar broke away from Bahrain. At this point the color was changed to "Qatar maroon" - said to be the product of sun drying the vegetable dyes used for the flags.
