South Korea Flag

Adopted 1948

The Korean flag features an ancient Buddhist symbol called the yin-yang (symbolizing the fusion of opposites). The white background stands for purity and the four black symbols have several meanings each. Reading from the top left and going clockwise these meanings are: summer, autumn, winter, spring; south, west, north, east; sky (heaven), moon, Earth, sun.
