Thailand Flag

Flag Adopted 28 September 1917

Called a Trairanga (tri color flag) the Thailand flag originated as a red background with a white elephant (the ancient symbol of the island and its monarchs), During World War I the elephant was removed and later a blue stripe was added as a show of solidarity with the Allies (whose flags are primarily red, white and blue).

The white color stands for the purity of the Buddhist faith and the red for blood.
