Uzbekistan Flag

Flag Adopted 1991

This new flag, adopted shortly after breaking away from the old USSR, is very similar to the old Soviet Uzbekistan flag.

The green represents Islam and fertility. The red is for the vigor of the people of Uzbekistan. The white is the customary color for peace and purity and the blue is the historical color of the Uzbek empire of the 14th century (said to represent water and the sky).

The new moon is a sign indicating that the country has been reborn and the 12 starts represent the 12 months of the Islamic calendar.
