Viet Nam Flag

Flag Adopted 30 November 1955

This flags design dates back to the original freedom fighters of Ho Chi Minh in the struggle to expel the Japanese in World War II. Later the same flag became the banner of the Socialist North against South Vietnam in the bloody civil war which consumed the country from 1955 to 1976.

The five pointed star is a traditional symbol of socialism where each point represents each of the five worker groups under socialism (youths, soldiers, intellectuals, peasants and workers).
