Missouri Flag Became a US State: 1821 Flag Adopted 1913 This flag recalls the states heritage before the Louisiana Purchase with the French tricolor (or alternately new allegiance the the new Union). The 24 stares denote the state being the 24th in the union. The state seal in the center shows two grizzly bears (for the courage of the people and the fortitude of the state) holding a shield with the arms of the US and a crescent moon and a bear. The seal also has 24 stars in the sky above the bears.
