North Carolina Flag Became a US State: 1789 Flag Adopted 1885 Like many of the other flags of the Former confederacy this flag has a slight resemblance to the Confederate Stars and Bars flag. The two scrolls on the left side give tow important dates in the States history. The top one is the date of the Micklenburg Declaration of Independence (a unverified meeting where the citizens of Micklenburg, NC declared themselves independent of the UK. The 2nd date is the date that NC authorized its constitutional delegates to vote for US independence.
